6 cops caught drinking liquor while on duty
ILOG, NEG. OCC. -- Warning to all police stations in the province of Negros Occidental, an inspection team from Negros Occidental Provincial Police Office (NOPPO) headed by Supt. Armando Tubongbanua is roaming around to conduct surprise inspections.
Ilog police station became the first casualty when last Sunday a team conducted a surprise inspection and it was found out that the police station was converted into a virtual beerhouse where six on-duty policemen were caught in the act having a drinking spree.
Chief Insp. Rico Santotome, public information officer of NOPPO, said the six on-duty policemen, some still in their uniforms, were found drinking liquor inside the police station.
The six policemen were identified as SPOI Ramon Macaya, PO3 Noel Joquino, PO2 Edward Gayuma, and Police Officers 1 Joseph Caballero, Gecel de la Cruz and Jonjer Yap.
Investigation showed that one of them was celebrating his birthday reason why there was a celebration in the police station.
“They can celebrate but not to the extent that they will make the police station as beer garden because it is a no-no to us,” Santotome added.
NOPPO inspection team has been making surprise inspections on police stations in the province to determine the alertness of its personnel in case of emergency situations.
Senior Supt. Manuel Felix, provincial police director of Negros Occidental, has already ordered Inspector Edencio Gregorio to direct the six policemen to explain why they were drinking alcoholic beverages inside the police station while on duty.
Their names have been submitted to the PNP Regional Office VI in Camp Delgado for appropriate action like the conduct of pre-charge investigation for possible filing of administrative charges.
