Sapian mayor: Study tour in Manila successful
SAPIAN, Capiz – Mayor Arturo “Turic” Orosco, Sr. said that the “Lakbay Aral” which they conducted recently in Manila was successful.
Orosco said that 45 persons representing Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) particularly the fisherfolk were among the delegates of the said study tour.
He said the fisherfolk learned a technology in terms of livelihood, and the protection of fishing grounds from the intrusion of big fishermen or commercial fishing boat.
He added that bantay dagat will also learn to protect corals and fish sanctuaries which are always destroyed by illegal fishermen.
Mrs. Nelly Gallardo, president of Golden Ladies, told The News Today (TNT) that participants learned to make charcoal, basket, bags from water lily in Tagaytay.
They also learned livelihood activities like the making of boneless bangus, manicure, welding, and many others which are deemed applicable in Sapian.
Meanwhile, Orosco said that the participants also attended the JS Prom of St. Francis of Assisi held at Manila Hotel then went to Tagaytay and in Malacañang where they were hosted by Undersecretary Lorelie Fajardo.
