Murder raps filed vs couple, 'hired killer'
SAN CARLOS CITY, Negros Occ. -- Police here yesterday filed murder cases against a couple and the man they allegedly hired to kill Genevieve Sonia Mas recently.
Charged were Rose, a Filipina, and her French husband Abdullah Benamirouch and their alleged hired killer Melchorito Alcala, 31, of Danao, Cebu.
Mas, 54, was shot around 2 pm last Tuesday while riding a pedicab at Brgy. 5 here.
Alcala was arrested 25 minutes after the incident with the help of a traffic enforcer.
Recovered from his possession were a .38 caliber snub-nosed revolver with two live ammunition and three empty shells, and the P2,000 cash and gold necklace of the victim.
In a tactical interrogation, Alcala admitted that he was hired by couple Rose and Abdullah Benamirouch to kill Mas, at a contracted price of P12,000.
With the statement of the gunman, San Carlos police made a follow-up operation until they arrested the Benamirouch couple who two strongly denied having anything to do with the death of Mas.
Police investigations showed that the killing may have been related to a property dispute in France because Mas is the girlfriend of the brother of Abdullah.
Alcala told the police that the P2,000 recovered from his position was the initial payment from the couple Rose and Abdullah when they planned the transaction in Danao, Cebu.
The Benamirouch couple and the alleged hired killer are now detained at the city police jail.
