Vendor's Plaza still a non-performing asset
BACOLOD CITY -- Sangguniang Panglungsod Member Alex Paglumutan, chair of the Committee on Market and Slaughterhouse, recently passed a resolution requesting City Administrator Dr. Rogelio Balo, head of the City's Socio Economic Enterprise, to update the Bacolod City Council on the actions taken with regard to the "potential future use" of Vendors Plaza situated at the Reclamation Area.
Paglumutan, who is one of those behind the establishment of Vendors Plaza during the administration of Former Mayor Oscar Verdeflor, passed last year Resolution No. 357-A "inquiring from the City Legal Office the status of the Vendors Plaza at the Reclamation Area" but as of now no response has been forwarded in answer to the said SP Resolution.
The Vendors Plaza was established in 1999 for the main purpose of giving enough space to all sidewalk vendors operating within the premises of Bacolod Central Market and any other establishments at the downtown area.
Paglumutan likewise referred this matter to the City Planning and Development Office (CPDO) as a rightful office or line agency to undertake the conduct of thorough evaluation and technical study as to the potential transformation and upgrading or any feasible future usage of Vendors Plaza owned by the City Government.
"It is imperative on the part of the incumbent city officials to do all possible means to transform these non-performing assets into a feasible and revenue gaining structures or government properties," Paglumutan added.
He said that as of now, the Sangguniang Panglungsod is now awaiting the evaluation report and recommendation from CPDO Head Architect Lemuel Reynaldo on the potential usage of Vendors Plaza.
Last SP Regular Session, Paglumutan reiterated his previous resolution and urged all concerned government agencies even the Socio Economic Enterprise to focus on the Vendor's Plaza and inform further the City Council as to the results of its action taken so that SP could be guided on what to do with this non-performing asset.
