Sen Roxas’s political ally: Local coalition still intact
ROXAS CITY – An ally of Sen. Mar Roxas said that the local political coalition called USWAG Capiz is still united and intact and that there is no such thing as breakaway faction among them.
Provincial Administrator Zoe Herrera made the pronouncement in reaction to an earlier report in this paper that Vice Governor Felipe Barredo, nine mayors and other former officials signified their intention to support Department of Agriculture Usec. Jocelyn “Jocjoc” Bolante's bid for governor of Capiz in 2010 election.
Herrera referred to the coalition with Liberal Party (LP) of Sen. Mar Roxas with 1st District Cong. Antonio del Rosario, Gov. Victor Tanco Sr., Vice Gov. Felipe Barredo and City Mayor Vicente Bermejo with Lakas-NUCD/Kampi of 2nd District Cong. Fredenil Castro, and 16 municipal mayors in both 1st and 2nd district of Capiz.
He said, the local coalition of different political parties under Sen. Mar Roxas are not affected by the political squabbling in the national level.
“Political squabble within the coalition is normal in a democratic country like ours but it does not mean that there are breakaway factions,” Herrera said.
He added that the squabbles among the political allies will be settled in due time when Sen. Mar Roxas will already declare that he will run for president in next year's election.
It was learned that Bermejo and Del Rosario had been at odds with each other while Castro and Tanco, Sr. are described to have a “silent war” since the duo were also not in good terms with their political allies and projects implementation in the 2nd district.
Meanwhile, Herrera said that the announcement of some political figures to run for public office is a welcome development for Capiz.
“We are in democracy and no one can prevent them from running as long as they are qualified,” Herrera said.
