Add'l patrol cars to improve police mobility
Donations of several patrol cars to the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) will help improve the mobility of the policemen in running after criminals especially those motorcycle riding hold-up men.
Mayor Jerry Treñas said the local government unit is ready to provide the necessary needs of the police in their crime fighting programs. The donations will enable the police to respond in a short period.
Recently, the ICPO received two patrol cars from Representative Raul Gonzalez, Jr. and one from the Philippine National Police national headquarters. They are also set to receive another five patrol cars from the city government.
There are a total eight patrol cars for the city police. With enough patrol cars, they can conduct mobile checkpoints anytime, said Treñas.
Meanwhile, two community police action centers were established in areas that were identified to be prone to criminalities. The new police centers were established in Barangays Cubay-Balabago-Bitoon in Jaro district. The creation of new police centers means distribution of police personnel and quick response to crimes. He would rather see policemen assigned in the different police action centers than seeing them in the police station.
The mayor added, additional centers will be put up in Barangay Tacas, the boundary village of Iloilo City and the town of Pavia and Barangays San Juan and Calumpang in Molo. It is in Barangay Tacas where the new city slaughterhouse is located.
