Solon wants imposition of LTO fines deferred
BACOLOD CITY -- Bacolod Lone District Congressman Monico O. Puentevella calls on the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) to defer the implementation of fines and penalties on traffic and administrative violations.
This after two leading transport groups in Bacolod City, FEBACDA and UNDOC, staged Monday a rally in front of the local Land Transportation Office (LTO). Puentevella, who is chair of the Congressional Committee on Transportation, prodded the transport groups for more time as he is poised to bring their concerns in his meeting with DOTC Secretary Leandro Mendoza today.
“I will personally ask Secretary Mendoza to immediately look into your appeal for the possible deferment or stoppage of the implementation of LTO Department Order No. 2008-39 which you believe levies exorbitant and heavy fees,” Puentevella assured FEBACDA and UNDOC.
He urgently called for a dialogue with concerned sectors and a congressional hearing if warranted by the circumstance. Puentevella added that he will be very grateful if DOTC can make their policies more responsive to the needs of the transport sector.
Earlier, FEBACDA and UNDOC sought the intervention of Puentevella for the possible deferment or stoppage of the implementation of said order because it will put the drivers in a more miserable situation since the fees and penalties it calls for are exorbitant. FEBACDA President Elizabeth J. Katalbas said that there was no appropriate and proper public hearings neither had it gained Congressional approval.
In its petition, UNDOC characterizes the said order as oppressive, repressive and insensible to the sad plight of the concerned taxpayers.
