FNRI opens on-line nutrition school
One does not necessarily have to enroll in an academic institution to get a credited nutrition education, said Ma. Idelia Glorioso of the Food and Nutrition Research Institute (FNRI).
Glorioso told members of the revived Iloilo Provincial Nutricomnet that DOST-FNRI has established a web site that consists of easy-to-understand modules designed for people with busy lifestyles.
The school serves as a virtual interactive school for food and nutrition lessons contained in modules on basic nutrition, nutrition in life cycle, nutrition and disease, foods, meal management, and the state of nutrition in the Philippines.
Glorioso said the site offers a 24/7 accessibility, where one has to register first, through www.nutritionschool.ph and avail of the modules as well as participate in a web-forum to express opinions and suggestions.
She said that what makes this practical is the fact that people can just log on to get the nutrition information they need for the moment.
The intended users for the site are nutritionists, nutrition students, health workers, educators, teachers, extension workers, local chief executives, food manufacturers and industries, policy makers and planners, mothers, homemakers and caregivers.
Glorioso added that for those who need the lessons to fulfill requirements for certification, they can download a certificate after passing the examination in each module.
“Anybody can avail of this convenient and effective venue of study on nutrition,” Glorioso said. (PIA6/ESS).
