MIWD establishes district metering zones to address system loss
The Metro Iloilo Water District (MIWD) is now in the process of establishing district metering zones or clustering of its service areas to make it easier for them to address its system loss.
Jerry Guillergan, officer-in-charge of the MIWD engineering department, said that at present, the system operation is still centralized from its water source in Maasin up to the distribution system.
With the district metering system, a mother meter will be installed and all other blowoffs or fire hydrants will have their own sub-meters.
At the end of the month, the MIWD will check the mother meter and bill volume and compare them with the reading of sub-meters.
“We will isolate them into zones so that it will be easier for us to identify and address the problem,” he said.
Guillergan said they will cover first portions of Jaro and Lapaz districts, especially in railway areas because these were not covered by their P207-million rehabilitation projects.
He added that by the second or third quarter of 2009, they might be able to go full swing with the establishment of metering zones because at present they only have P28 million available fund to cover portions of the railway areas.
MIWD plans to establish 38 district metering zones in the two districts but so far only 18 have program of works.
The 18 metering zones need at least P84 million for them to become operational. (PNA)
