PRO6, Shell ink MOU to tighten security
The Pilipinas Shell pledged its support to the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO6) by providing fixed visibility points for police personnel in all retail gas stations region wide. This is among the provisions of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed Tuesday at Brgy. Lapuz, La Paz by Police Chief Superintendent Isagani R Cuevas of PRO6 and Mr Mark Gayon, the Pilipinas Shell – Visayas Retail District Manager.
The MOU is pursuant to Pilipinas Shell Performance Team for Security Program.
The MOU also provided that Pilipinas Shell shall (1) initiate local dialogues with PRO6 on a regular basis relative to the security situation, share ideas on how to improve the peace and order in the locality and provide intelligence information whenever available, (2) provide a space for police/community billboard where police can post announcements, posters of wanted persons and distribute crime prevention leaflets to the public; and (3) provide a logbook in each Shell station and record the visits of patrolling policemen and the different activities in the area.
The PRO6’s roles are to (1) utilize the areas provided by Pilipinas Shell as an extension of the Police Community Precincts or the Police Assistance Centers, where victims/complainants can ask the help/assistance of police personnel; as a check/chokepoint and dragnet operations area; as a drop-off point for relief goods during calamities; and, as an assembly area for Saturday inspections, guard mounting and other police activities; (2) utilize the police/community billboard provided by the Pilipinas Shell to post posters of Most Wanted Persons, community feedback/reactions, the distribution of crime-prevention leaflets, text info-drive, etc.; and (3) participate in regular dialogues with Pilipinas Shell together with other agencies/organizations that they may invite relative to the security situation in the locality and share ideas/information.
Cuevas said the PNP welcomes the initiative of Pilipinas Shell for it indicates that non-government organizations are now taking active role in the maintenance of peace and order.
“This partnership is of great help in our campaigns against criminality, insurgency, and other peace and order concerns,” he said.
Gayon explained that the project is in support of the PNP Mamang Pulis project on the enhancement of police visibility.
“We have more than 1,000 sites throughout the country, and we hope that by providing fixed visibility points for patrolling police personnel we can do our share in curbing criminality,” Gayon quipped.
Witnesses to the signing of MOU were Bayani Ladrido, Pilipinas Shell Pototan Dealer; Jose Hautea Jr, Iloilo City Retailer and Vice President of the Association of Pilipinas Shell Dealers; Ricardo Sobredilla, Lapuz Depot Manager; Police Senior Superintendent Arnulfo DR Perez, Deputy Regional Director for Operations; PSSupt Ruperto T Floro, Jr., Chief of Regional Operations and Plans Division; and PSSupt Melvin G. Mongcal, the Iloilo City Police Office Director.
