Capiz is culture-friendly LGU awardee
ROXAS CITY – Capiz Gov. Victor A. Tanco, Sr. is set to receive an award for the province as a culture-friendly Local Government Unit (LGU) in Malacañang tomorrow in recognition of its dedication to advancement and promotion of heritage, arts and culture.
The awarding ceremony is the highlight of the “2009 World Theater Week” celebration from March 21 to 27 that is carried on in the country pursuant to President Gloria Macapagal – Arroyo’s Presidential Proclamation No. 1262.
President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is expected to witness the awarding rites, said National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) Executive Director Cecile Guidote Alvarez in a communication to LGU-awardees.
“The award was due to the programs that promote and develop culture and arts in the province,” said Provincial Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office staff Ruel Doce.
The province has utilized culture to identify the real needs of the Capiceños, he added.
Capiz along with 19 other LGUs nationwide was chosen by the International Theater Institute Executive Council in coordination with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), Department of Education (DepEd) and Office of the President – Presidential Adviser on Culture to receive the award.
The awardees will receive a “sarimanok” trophy designed by National Artist for Sculpture Dr. Abdulmari Asia Imao.
The accounts of the awarding ceremony will be aired as part of the weekly educational and cultural program “Sining Gising” (Ugnayan ng DepEd at NCCA) on National Broadcasting Network (NBN) on March 28 from 4:00PM to 6:00PM. (PIA/A.Lumaque)
