City gov't eyes 100 police auxiliaries
The Iloilo city government is planning to hire 100 police auxiliaries to help the city police force ensure peace and order in the city.
The police auxiliaries will act as multiplier force to the present number of policemen in the city.
City Mayor Jerry Treñas said he is now in close coordination with the Philippine National Police and Department of Interior and Local Government on the plan to hire police auxiliaries. The plan was conceptualized by ICPO director, Sr. Supt. Melvin Mongcal.
In the proposed plan, the applicants must be a graduate of a criminology course, he or she may be under board or a board passer, a college graduate, or a criminology student who spent two years in college or a two-year college graduate. Applicants must submit clearances such as court, National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and drug test results.
The hiring of police auxiliary as multiplier force of the police is patterned from Manila. It was also Mongcal who made the concept paper for the police auxiliary. Once hired, a police auxiliary will receive a salary of P6,000 with benefits from GSIS and Phil Health. Police auxiliary will be hired on contractual basis.
The renewal of their contract depends on their performance. The city will also provide the police auxiliaries with their uniforms and arm them with an arnis or with a tear gas. They will undergo arnis training and self-defense training prior to their deployment. The ratio of the deployment is 1:3 or one police with three police auxiliaries. The 100 police auxiliaries will be deployed in the different districts.
The hiring of police auxiliaries will also serve as training ground for the future hiring in the police service. It will be an opportunity for them to practice what they have learned in the university, said Treñas.
Treñas said the concept paper will be refined before it will be presented to the Sangguniang Panglungsod for approval. At present, there are six city councilors who signified their approval for the hiring of police auxiliaries.
