Sec. Cabral leads distribution of senior citizens' cash aid
BACOLOD CITY -- Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Esperanza Cabral along with Bacolod Lone District Representative Monico O. Puentevella led yesterday the distribution of cash assistance to 99 indigent senior citizens in this city.
Cabral said that each senior citizen who has no pending retirement benefits from GSIS and SSS are qualified to receive the P500 cash assistance from the national government.
She said yesterday's distribution was the last batch for the city of Bacolod after they have started this program last year.
"This project is only for senior citizens whose age is above 70 years old and have no pension from either SSS or GSIS or some other retirement fund," Cabral said. She likewise clarified that if there are two senior citizens in the family, only one could avail of the cash assistance.
Cabral said the releasing of this assistance will be coursed through to the Local Social Welfare Office and the Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs.
Last year, Cabral distributed cash assistance to the first 500 seniors citizens in a simple rites attended by the local officials here in the city of Bacolod.
Meanwhile, Rep. Puentevella thanked the presence of Secretary Cabral who led the simple affair attended by the senior citizens in the city of Bacolod.
Puentevella noted that many sectors forget our elderly but these people could still be useful for the development of our country. He cited world leaders that in spite of their ages, they are still strong and useful to their country.
