City gov’t to give financial aids to grenade blast victims
The city government will release a total of P110,000 as financial aid to the victims of the grenade explosion inside the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) detachment yesterday morning.
City Mayor Jerry Treñas said P50,000 will be given to the family of SPO3 Raphael Managuit who died in the line of duty. The other P40,000 is intended for PO3 Abundio Diaz Jr. and the remaining P20,000 will be divided to PO2 Albert Sardua Jr. and PO2 Roque Gimeno. The three policemen suffered injuries as a result of the grenade explosion.
The financial assistance to cops will be taken from chief executive’s discretionary fund. Treñas said he wants the immediate release of the amount for the victims.
The mayor said he has already assured the families of SPO3 Managuit of the city’s help when he visited the families of the policeman at the St. Therese Hospital. Managuit died after he suffered fatal injuries on his body.
The same help will be extended to PO2 Diaz who is in critical condition as of press time. He is undergoing operation at the Iloilo Saint Paul's Hospital because of his injury caused by shrapnels.
Police officers Sardua and Gimeno likewise will receive financial help from the city government. The mayor assured that the city government will extend whatever help is needed for the recovery of the policemen.
Treñas said the cops were about to bring the recovered hand grenade and rifle grenade in Camp Delgado when it blew up.
The hand grenade and the rifle grenade were recovered at the residence of East Baluarte Kagawad Yolanda Cenato. The bombs were believed to be planted by Senato’s son-in-law Sahir Sossaen.
Sahir, a Bangladesh national, earlier surrendered to the police authorities through his legal counsel Atty. Edel Julio Romero. The foreigner denied the accusation against him.
Senato and the foreigner have filed charges and counter charges against each other. Sahir will undergo questioning for allegedly masterminding the grenade planting.
The chief executive said they will also review the measures in the handling of explosives recovered by the EOD and SWAT. He wants that no similar incident will happen in the future.
