NOPPO gears up for Lenten season
BACOLOD CITY -- The Philippine National Police in Negros Occidental is in its final preparations for the observance of Holy Week from April 5-12 in the province.
In a memorandum directed to the various field and unit commanders of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office, provincial director Police Senior Superintendent Manuel Felix declared a "Full Alert" status for the duration of the week-long celebration among the various religious sectors in Negros Occidental.
OPLAN 05/2009 (Holy Week) provides that NOPPO shall render public safety services to motorists, commuters and the general public particularly in conducting intensified security patrols and traffic management along national highways.
Likewise, policemen assigned in the province are expected to secure and guide other public thoroughfares to and from procession sites, summer resorts and other places of convergence during the Holy Week.
Police Chief Inspector Rico Santotome Jr, NOPPO spokesperson, said that all city and municipal police station chiefs were also directed to tie up security and activities for public safety with the Department of Transportation and Communication's "OPLAN Semana Santa 2009" particularly in the areas of deployment and Motorist/Passenger Assistance Center.
Meanwhile, PSSupt Felix added that NOPPO will also secure vital installations during the Lenten Seson in line with the action plan "TEAM NEGROS" in partnership with the provincial government of Negros Occidental headed by Governor Isidro Zayco. (NOPPO-PIO)
