Sen. Roxas medical missions slated in Iloilo
A series of medical missions organized by Sen. Mar Roxas will be conducted in Iloilo City and Province for the duration of April 1 to May 10, 2009.
Lawyer Pablo R. Nava III, coordinator for Iloilo City and Province of the Friends of Mar Roxas (FOMs)-Iloilo said the project covers 15 areas in the five congressional districts of the province as well as five areas in the city of Iloilo.
Primary beneficiaries of the medical missions are the marginalized sector of the community like family members of trisikadores and those similarly situated in terms of low income.
Preparation for the Sen. Mar Roxas Medical Missions in Iloilo is ongoing with volunteer doctors expected to be tapped from the Iloilo Provincial Health Office, and also from private medical associations here.
The medical missions are in support to Sen. Mar Roxas’ advocacy on the use of generic medicines. The Ilongo senator is principal author of the “Quality Affordable Medicines Act” passed last year.
Each medical mission will extend consultations with free medicines to about 200 beneficiaries or a total of about 4,000 target beneficiaries in 15 areas in the province and 5 areas in the city of Iloilo.
