Injured soldiers of 47th IB receive medal
Two soldiers of 47th Infantry Batallion who were wounded during a firefight with New People's Army rebels in Tapaz, Capiz were awarded yesterday for their bravery.
PFCs Franklin F. Catamin and Howell G. Villa were awarded the Wounded Personnel Medal by Col. Gerardo T. Layug, Commander of the 301st Infantry Brigade, in a simple ceremony held at Headquarters 47IB in Calinog, Iloilo for continuing to fight off the rebels despite their injuries.
The Wounded Personnel Medal is awarded to military personnel of the AFP and civilian citizens of the Philippines serving with the AFP by Commanders of major subordinate units of Major Services down to Battalion Commanders. In case of combat patient evacuated to AFP hospitals, the CO is authorized to award this medal.
The AFP also saw to the injured soldiers needs and took care of their hospitalization bills. When asked, the soldiers were ready to get back on the battlefield as soon as they recuperate from their injuries.
The Command also regrets the loss of one of their soldiers, PFC Eugene S. Daquil, who was killed during the encounter. They have already notified his next of kin and the AFP is extending its support to his bereaved family.
