Truck drivers warned not to collect unsegragated garbage
BACOLOD CITY -- Acting City Legal Officer Atty. Vicente Petierre Jr. warned yesterday all drivers of the Department of Public Services (DPS) to take extra caution in their effort of collecting segregated waste materials or garbage at various sources here in the City of Bacolod.
This announcement was issued by Atty. Petierre after receiving information that there are drivers who collect garbage that are not segregated.
"I would like to reiterate that the office of the city mayor would impose disciplinary action to erring drivers who collect unsegrated garbage," Petierre said. He added that any employee could face disciplinary action or suspension if it is proven that they facilitated the collection of garbage even without segregation.
Petierre likewise said that to strenthen this campaign, the enforcement unit from the City Legal Office is now monitoring all DPS drivers to see to it the strict implementation of segregation. He also announced that anybody found violating Republic Act 9003 otherwise known as the Solid Waste Management Act will be dealth with accordingly.
Under the strict implementation of this law, the city government vowed to collect the garbage from compostable waste starting Monday up to Friday and the collection of recyclable wastes and residual wastes shall be done only on Tuesday and Thursday.
Earlier, Atty. Petierre issued a directive to the residents of Brgy. Felisa not to hamper the operations of our various dumptrucks especially in the major road going to the dumpsite. He warned that anybody who should hamper or obstruct the operation shall be dealt with accordingly or face penalties of imprisonment.
