Pres. Roxas' 61st death anniv remembered
ROXAS CITY – Capiz Governor Victor Tanco, Sr. said here yesterday that another Roxas will finish the unfinished term of his grandfather the late President Manuel Roxas.
This was said by Tanco during the 61th death anniversary celebration of Pres. Roxas at the Roxas City plaza where several municipal and provincial officials attended.
Tanco's statement refered to Sen. Mar Roxas, a grandson of the late Pres. Manuel Roxas, who is groomed to run for president in next year's election.
Pres. Roxas died on April 15, 1948 at the age of 56, suffering a fatal heart attack after delivering a speech at Clark Air Base in Angeles City. He was succeeded by his vice president, Elpidio Quirino.
The governor also said that Sen. Mar is already recognized and has a destiny to become a president to continue the legacy of his late grandfather.
On the other hand, City Mayor Vicente Beremjo, who also delivered his speech, said that the people of Capiz have to look back to the good legacy of a great man the late President Manuel Roxas.
The Roxas family was only represented by Mrs. Angie Billosillo Salazar during the celebration.
The occasion was also witnessed by Vice. Gov. Felipe Barredo, Board Members Fritz Cruz-Am, Baden Cantiller, Nenita Martilino, Gilbert Ardivilla and Winston Advincula. All 1st district municipal mayors were present while only Mambusao Mayor Jose Alba of the 2nd district was absent during the occasion.
Earlier, all mayors of the second district boycotted the opening salvo of Capiztahan 2009 while all 1st district mayors were present except City Mayor Vicente Bermejo.
Sources told The News Today (TNT) that the 2nd district mayors failed to show up in the said occasion in protest against Gov. Tanco.
However, Tanco said that the occasion was not his birthday but the foundation day of Capiz which all mayors have responsibilities to do their share for the province.
