Antique celebrates Earth Day
SAN JOSE, Antique – Antique joins other communities in the country to celebrate the Earth Day in compliance with Presidential Proclamation No. 1481 declaring April 22 of every year as Philippine Earth Day.
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources in the province headed by PENRO Vicente Sardina, being in the forefront of a nationwide celebration has lined up various activities in consonance with the theme “Lupa, Tubig Buhayin: Batas ay Tuparin.”
Theme underscored the significant role of people in protecting the rich natural resources (in land and water) by being compliant to the laws/orders that protect the environment to conserve the earth for future generations particularly coping with the effects of global warming and climate change.
Among the activities are river clean up and mangrove planting in Hamtic, educational tour to reforestation project in Sebaste and Bird Kite Flying Competition at St. Anthony’s College.
The country is blessed with bountiful forest, pristine waters, rich natural resources, exceptional wildlife and diversified living organism, the theme is timely reminder of people’s responsibilities to conserve and render vigilance to the rich natural resources.
Presidential Proclamation No. 1481 also enjoins government agencies/entities, non-government organizations/private sector, religious groups, communities and families to draw activities to drum beat the celebration. (JTemana/DENR/PIA)
