Iloilo’s bet steals light in Capiztahan fireworks tilt
ROXAS CITY – Iloilo’s entry out-dazzled 19 other entries in the national fireworks competition that capped the Capiztahan festival of Capiz held April 13-15 this year.
The fireworks bet from the neighboring province brought home P100,000.00 top cash prize from the provincial government headed by Gov. Victor Tanco that put up the show as a major highlight of the 108thfoundation anniversary of the establishment of a civil government here.
First runnerup was the entry of last year’s champion Dumaguete City, which garnered P60,000.00. Second runner-up was Cebu’s entry, winning the P40,000.00 prize.
The rest of the participating fireworks manufacturers from various parts of the country each received P25,000.00 consolation prize.
Tanco thanked the fireworks manufacturers for participating in the event April 15 evening, the second in a row staged by the province as part of the Capiztahan commemorative celebration.
April 15 also marks the death anniversary of the first president of the Philippine Republic, Manuel Acuña Roxas, Capiz’s most illustrious son.
President Arroyo has declared April 15 as a red-letter day and assigning the nearest Friday to it as a special non-working holiday in Capiz and its capital of Roxas City.
Positive comments were received by Gov. Tanco and his Provincial Tourism Office for the successful celebration which tried to showcase the achievements of the province in the area of governance.
