89 families in Valderrama availed of shelter assistance
SAN JOSE, Antique – A total of 89 families from Barangay Boroc-boroc, Valderrama availed of Shelter Assistance from the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
Barangay Boroc-boroc is about 55 kilometers away from the Antique’s capital town of San Jose located along one of the Antique major rivers, the Kangaranan River.
Barangay residents of Boroc-boroc whose homes where devastated by Typhoon Frank way back in June 2008 which wreck millions of properties and caused the lost of numerous lives, were given shelter assistance in the amount of P4.450 million.
Joel Galicia, Assistant Regional Director of DSWD Region 6 said that Antique is the first municipality in the province to avail of the shelter assistance. The checks were released to the beneficiaries last year to purchase materials for the construction of their houses.
The said housing units is set to be inauguratred and turned over to the beneficiaries by no less than President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo as one of her centerpiece project to help the disadvantaged families cope with the present economic crisis.
Meanwhile, the Provincial Disaster Coordinating Council during its meeting recently reported that the families affected by Typhoon Frank are now moving on the way to full recovery with the concerted efforts of the government agencies, private organizations, religious groups, local government units, families, communities and survivor themselves.
DSWD has released a total of P18.763 million to more than 10,000 beneficiaries that helped in the rehabilitation process of the affected families while the Provincial Government has released a total of P22.296 million infrastructure projects to fasttrack the recovery of the affected families. The Department of Agriculture also reported asistance to farmers and fisherfolks affected by the calamity.
