Official upbeat on Negros Food for Expert
BACOLOD CITY -- Philippine Export Trustee Nora Lao expressed optimism that food products from Negros Occ. have the potential for export and rake in dollars for the province.
In an interview during the “Consulting on Enterprise Development Cum Market-Clinic” at the Media Center, Pana-ad Park and Stadium, she said the products need to be repackaged first before hitting the international market.
Among the products she mentioned are mangoes, squid, peanuts and dried fish. The items are displayed in many booths in the park.
She also mentioned the potentials in traditional local handicraft products like lamps and furniture that have already gained steady followers but also sees very good prospects in Negros food.
Speaking on the topic “Pains and Gains of Export Business,” Lao stressed the need for confidence and positive thinking amid global slump in international trading.
“You should be optimistic always. This is a crisis of confidence, if you want to enjoy your business, you should always have a good outlook in life,” she said.
Lao admitted that house wares and Christmas decors are not that strong at the moment but food is enjoying good sales from both domestic and foreign consumers.
During a recent international food fair held in Manila, each participating enterprise reported good earnings in sales, she noted.
Other speakers in this two-day activity include Bernadette Montelibano- Division Chief, Market Development Division, Bureau of Domestic Trade (BDT); Achilles Castañeda Assistant Chief, Market Development Division (BDT), Chellie San Pedro- Philippine International Trading Corp. and Edward Marra- Design Specialist/Manager CDC Exports.
