Biggest job fairs up on May 1
The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) 6 is urging jobseekers including the new graduates in Western Visayas to take advantage of the simultaneous job fairs that will be conducted in the key cities in the region on May 1, 2009.
Dubbed "Labor Day Tayo Na! Trabaho Na! Jobapalooza ‘09", the job fairs are the collaborative effort of the DOLE, local government units, and other social partners.
In a Malacañang report, Press Secretary Cerge Remonde said that “In lieu of the traditional military and civic parades and the usual economic benefits being announced during Labor Day celebrations, we are focusing more on the job fairs since we have to address unemployment and creating jobs so that our country will be better able to overcome the current global financial crisis.”
DOLE VI Information Officer Amalia Judicpa said in the region, the biggest job fair will be held in Bacolod City in Negros Occidental where it will be conducted in SM City Bacolod, Robinson’s Place Mandalagan and Gaisano City Mall starting at 9:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. on May 1.
On the other hand, the Iloilo Job Fair will be held at SM City Mandurriao from 10:00 AM to 6 P.M.
Judicpa said more than 89 employers will participate in the Bacolod City and Iloilo City job fairs and almost 50,000 local and overseas jobs will be available.
Another highlight of the event in Bacolod City is the display of the different products of DOLE 6’s assisted project proponents through a livelihood fair.
Also, on-site services of DOLE and other partner agencies such as the Social Security System, Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, Pag-IBIG, Technical Education, Skills Development Authority and Department of Science and Technology are available at the fairs.
Judicpa advised job seekers who will participate in the jobs fair to bring with them their personalized resume, transcript of record, passport if any and other credentials. (PIA)
