City gov’t eyes livelihood for San Isidro relocatees
The city government is planning to utilize its about P900,000 share from the Electric Power Industry Reform Act (EPIRA) to put up a livelihood project for relocatees at the San Isidro relocation site in Jaro district here.
The San Isidro relocation site is expected to accommodate close to 2,000 households from identified danger zones, flood control projects and those affected by Typhoon Frank.
Mayor Jerry P. Treñas said households can organize a cooperative and probably put up a bakery or backyard poultry.
The construction of houses at the relocation site is now in full swing.
The area is so far the biggest and most "pampered" relocation site of the city where various government agencies, international funding agencies, foreign donors and non-government organizations pooled their resources for the project.
Just recently, Social Welfare and Development Secretary Esperanza Cabral announced that the construction of houses at agency’s core shelter project amounting to P34-million is about to kick off this month.
She said that one model house was already completed while three other houses are being constructed.
The core shelter project will accommodate 500 houses that will be constructed by the Habitat for Humanity right in San Isidro.
Cabral said that they hope to complete the project within the year. (PNA)
