Iloilo City mayor to attend urban summit in New York
Mayor Jerry P. Treñas will go to New York, United States of America on June 2-3, 2009 to participate in the 3rd summit on the Meeting of the Minds with the theme “Rethinking 21st Century Urban Design and Infrastructure.”
Invited by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) through Michael Lindfield, Principal Urban Development Specialist, Regional and sustainable Development Department, Treñas is one of a small selected group of mayors in Asia to actively participate in the leadership summit.
The international event, in partnership with the German Technical Cooperation (GTZ) through the Cities Development Initiative for Asia (CDIA) that will bring together leaders from national and international business, academe, and science, government and the independent sector to provide a platform for debate and discussions for sustainable cities and design a new approach to urban vehicles.
ADB will cover the cost of travel including a round trip airfare direct to New York, accommodation and subsistence allowance for the duration of the event.
Treñas said he is going to the leadership summit to present the city’s development strides and potentials for macro urban programs and projects. He will also gather development information on other Asian cities for possible replication in this southern city. (PNA)
