Magazine cites Rep. Del Rosario as outstanding neophyte legislator
ROXAS CITY – 1st District Cong. Antonio del Rosario was cited as most outstanding neophyte legislator in the 14th Congress by Public Eye Magazine in Manila.
In making the citation, Public Eye Magazine publisher Godofredo Ramos recognized the Del Rosario's slogan “Aksyon Agad Tony Del Rosario, A born leader”
The magazine stated that Del Rosario as three termer mayor of Roxas City left as his legacy a healthy city treasury with surplus fund of P140 million, a clean and green city winning the top award for seven consecutive years that has made Roxas City a Hall of Famer of the Clean and Green Movement of the National Government.
“It was during his term as mayor that the city streets were in bloom, when garbage were regularly collected, when funds were never a problem, when incurring a loan from any government bank was unheard of,” the magazine stated.
The magazine also stated that Del Rosario made substantial contribution to the barangays by giving multi-purpose vehicles in case of emergencies, cell phones with camera, and TV sets with DVD players.
During his term, his office extended hospitalization and burial assistance to the sick and needy. It has likewise provided emergency funds for city hall employees and city public school teachers, which they used in time of crisis.
Del Rosario has developed a 5-hectare relocation site for 287 displaced squatter families and another two hectares as housing project for the city government. It was also during his incumbency that Roxas City acquired a piece of valuable land in Baybay Beach, which was eventually developed into a People’s Park.
As congressman, Del Rosario has a perfect attendance in all sessions where he was able to sponsor three important bills and two of which were recently passed and signed into law namely: HB 1199 (substituted to HB2844) - Cheaper Medicines Bill; HB1197 - An act providing for upgrade of the standard salary of all government personnel, providing benefits for early retirement & voluntary separation from government service.
He also authored HB 4933, an act establishing a national high school in Barangay Dayao, Roxas City. He also authored 45 bills, which are still waiting further action in the House of Representatives.
The magazine added that Del Rosario was able to construct ports, bridges, concreting of roads, providing multi-cab for the barangays and several coastal barangays of 1st district were also given boat patrols.
The congressman allocated some P200,000 per barangay in his district or a total of P23 million from his PDAF to fund priority projects of their respective barangays.
He likewise allocated funds for the construction of two skywalks in Roxas City in the amount of P7 million where one of which is nearly finished at Roxas avenue this city.
Del Rosario started his political career as barangay captain in Dayao, Roxas City where he later became city councilor and had been vice mayor for several terms and mayor for three terms before he became congressman.
