Simple celeb to mark Roxas City's 58th charter day
ROXAS CITY – The city government under the administration of Mayor Vicente Bermejo will commemorate its charter anniversary on May 12 through a simple celebration.
City Administrator Rey Cordenillo told The News Today (TNT) that the charter celebration will only focus on basic services which is one of the city government’s primary thrusts.
Capiz became a chartered city on May 12, 1951 through House Bill 1528 sponsored by Ramon Acuña Arnaldo, the representative of the First District of Capiz. It was approved by President Elpidio Quirino on April 11, 1951 as Republic Act 608. Consequently, the town was named Roxas City after her greatest son, President Manuel Acuña Roxas, the last president of the Commonwealth and the first president of the Philippine Republic.
According to him, the celebration will take off on Tuesday as a usual tradition with flag ceremony, blessing of five garbage truck collectors, five dump trucks and two transit mixers, all are additional heavy equipment of the city government to cater its development projects.
The city administrator also said that the newly refurbished office of the city treasurer will also be blessed to be used as the office of the city engineer’s office. He added that the said office will temporarily be used as the venue of the gallery of services during the celebration.
He also said that the city health and Department of Social Welfare and Development Office (DSWDO) will be used as the venue of medical/dental services where free circumcision will be conducted provided that the parent of the patient to circumcised will also donate blood for the Red Cross.
Cordenillo said that livestock seminar will be conducted while some 1,020 Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) will be given P1,000.00 each by Bermejo which he has been doing every charter day celebration.
He said there will also be a mass wedding for 23 couples of both casual and regular city employees with the reception to be held at the city hall where foods would be contributed by their officemate at their respective offices.
At night, the Sugar Free band from Manila will perform at the public plaza.
