Regional Agri Fair bolsters campaign to cope global crisis
SAN JOSE, Antique – The Regional Agri-Fair recently held in the Province of Antique bolster campaign to cope global crisis on economy, global warming and climate change with it’s theme “Gamay nga Parangitan-an, Sabat sa Krisis Pangkalibutan”.
Regional Executive Director Larry Nacionales of the Department of Agriculture said that the event is one of the strategies of the Agri-Business and Marketing Department of DA to bring together the major players in the Region to showcase the agricultural and fishery products to capture market for small farmers and fisherfolks.
The theme underscored the role of small entrepreneurs who are into agri- and fishery based ventures in coming up with competitive products which not only support food security program which is affected by the global warming and climate change but also generate employment in the agricultural sector that eventually help farmers and fisher folks cope with the impact of global meltdown.
The five-day affair held at Old Capitol Grounds, San Jose which coincided with the celebration of the Binirayan Festival showcased the agricultural and fishery products of the provinces of Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Iloilo, Guimaras and Negros Occidental including Cebu province.
The Province of Antique took this opportunity as host of the event not only to showcase the best agri-fishery products but also promote tourist destinations, rich culture, local arts and original Kinaray-a music.
Governor Salvacion Z. Perez said, the province is proud to host the affair since Antique is an agricultural province which considers agriculture as a major contributor to economy, growth and development.
During the exhibits, there were also technology demonstrations and investment forum for farmers, fisherfolks and entrepreneurs, market matching and film showing of technologies in agriculture and fisheries.
The launching was attended by regional and provincial chiefs of offices of the National Food Authority, National Irrigation Administration, Philippine Coconut Authority, Bureau of Agricultural Statistics, Departments of Agriculture, Trade and Industry and Office of Provincial Veterinarian and local officials.
