Capiceño lawyer in Manila warns against impostor
ROXAS CITY – A noted criminal lawyer has warned against a name-dropper who engaged in nefarious activities and has deceived several hapless and unknowing clients of million of pesos.
Atty. Nelson Borja said that a fictitious lawyer with a non-existing office at Ortigas Center in Pasig City is using his name. He said the impostor is a disgrace to the legal profession of which he is duty-bound to protect.
“I have built a reputation through prayers, dedication and hard work and I will not allow these illegal activities to continue,” Borja added, as he urged the victims to report the matter to the authorities so the culprit could be arrested.
Contrary to the personal description of the impostor, Borja is a former enlisted and junior officer of the defunct Philippine Constabulary (PC) Metrocom and is widely known in the legal and media circles to have successfully defended high-profile cases involving prominent personalities for the past several years.
Borja said at least five victims have talked to him in the past years that they were victimized by a “fictitious lawyer” after assuring them of his legal expertise in exchange for acceptance fees ranging from P250,000 to P 300,00 each.
Two of the victims, both businesswoman from Bulacan and Bicol, had managed to locate the real Atty. Borja whose office address is at K-9th St. East Kamias, Quezon City. The victims described the suspects as in his early 50s about 5’4” in height and with a protruding stomach.
Borja is a true-blooded Capiceño and grew up in Brgy. Binatuan, Panay, Capiz. He finished his elementary at Panay and secondary education at Capiz National High School. He studied at Colegio de la Purisima Concepcion for three semesters, and eventually stopped due to poverty and went to Manila in 1967 to finish his college degree and LLB and passed the Bar Examination.
