Sapian’s 'tahong' and 'talaba' to be displayed at Pasalubong Center
ROXAS CITY – Sapian’s two major products, talaba (oyster) and tahong (green mussels), will be made available at the proposed “Pasalubong Center” to be put up in Sapian intended for passengers of Roll on-Roll off (RORO) that pass by this town in going to Manila and vice versa.
This was said by Sapian Mayor Arturo “Turic” Orosco during the Talahong Festival held last May 7-9 in the said town.
Orosco, supported by his wife Dr. Evangeline Oñas Orosco, said that the 2nd Talahong Festival was successful as he thanked public officials and his constituents for its success.
The idea of putting up a Pasalubong Center was also endorsed by Mrs. Jane Castro, wife of 2nd District Cong. Fredenil Castro, and Department of Agriculture (DA) Usec. Jocelyn “Jocjoc” Bolante who was also present during the festival.
According to Castro, the people of Sapian should be thankful for the blessing of God as the town is abundant of “talaba” and “tahong”.
“My husband Fredenil strived to have a good road for RORO in the 2nd district of Capiz thus we can build the pasalubong center for talaba and tahong,” Castro said during her message at the town stage.
However, she lamented to discover that although Capiz is known as the seafoods capital of the Philippines, some milkfish (bangrus) being sold at Teodoro Arcenas Trade Center came from Dagupan province.
On the other hand, Bolante also said that the Pasolubong Center is needed in Sapian to promote such products.
“I pray that talaba and tahong will be well known as the best and tasty not only in the Philippines but in the whole world,” Bolante stressed.
It was learned that Sapian has nine coastal barangays which produces more than 100 sacks of talaba and tahong that are being disposed for sale and delivery daily.
Since the town is abundant with the seafood products, it was the initiative of the Orosco couple to organize a new festival that caters to the business sector in promoting the local products for trading and for tourism purposes.
