Grenade thrower arrested for arson
BACOLOD CITY -- A case for arson is being readied by the Hinobaan police against the 28-year old suspect in Sitio Cabungahan in Barangay Talacagay.
Police Inspector Mateo Maguate, chief of the Hinoba-an Police Station, identified the suspect as Jovannie Valor alias Jojo who was positively identified by spouses Federico and Marina Gonzaga as the one who lobbed two fragmentation grenades at their residence.
On May 16, Valor was inside the police station to report a similar case of a burning incident allegedly involving his house.
In order to mislead the police, Valor also set his house on fire then fled afterwards before reporting the incident to the local police the following day by concocting stories which puzzled investigators.
However, Valor was positively identified by the Gonzaga couple inside the Hinoba-an Police Station as the culprit leaving the police with no choice but to jail the suspect who was allegedly drunk and even fired his 12-gauge shotgun during the incident.
The grenade-throwing incident last Friday evening in Sitio Talacagay resulted in the burning of the Gonzaga residence.
