Intel operatives capture ‘wanted’ Romeo in rape of minor
Authorities arrested a wanted fugitive accused of raping a minor. And it was not just any other “regular” rape case nor “regular” rape suspect. The charged crime was reported to have repeatedly occurred in a span of ten years.
Finally captured by virtue of an arrest warrant was 39 year-old Romeo Libona of Cabangaan, Badiangan, Iloilo.
In a report, The News Today (TNT) gathered that a total of seven counts of rape await the accused. He has since been subject of manhunt by intelligence operatives. Yet for the longest time, he has successfully eluded authorities until his arrest in Badiangan. Investigators now know that among his previous hide-out was a ‘safehouse’ in Roxas City in Capiz province.
Romeo apparently took the chance of visiting his mother as civilian informants tipped off the Regional Intelligence Office (RIO) of the Police Regional Office (PRO) 6. With the arrest thereafter easily made, the accused Romeo is now behind bars and set to be turned over to the proper Court.
Romeo’s victim is a native of Lambunao, Iloilo. TNT learned that the victim made a confession of the sexual abuse saying she recalled the first incident when she was only six years old. With nobody then in the know, the victim told authorities of the repeated instances that continued until her teenage years. She is now 16 years old.
Romeo remains in custody and tight watch of the RIO until proper disposition of his case.
