NNC steps up nutrition IEC for accelerated hunger mitigation
The National Nutrition Council (NNC) has put among its priorities under the Accelerated Hunger Mitigation Program (AHMP) of the government, the conduct of a massive information and education campaign in the AHMP priority areas.
NNC Regional Coordinator Nona Tad-y said that about 50 percent of the barangays and the schools in the country have been distributed IEC materials in the form of tarpaulin-billboards, posters and brochures, including kits to be used by the communities, health centers and schools.
Tad-y said these materials developed by the cooperative efforts by the Department of Agriculture, the Philippine Information Agency, and the NNC, contain messages on the nutritional guidelines for the Filipinos, promotion of health through proper nutrition and healthy lifestyle.
Tad-y said the materials are delivered directly to the province and city to the consignees authorized by the province and city, while the provincial government through their Provincial Nutrition Action Officer, shall be responsible for distribution.
She added that there are specifications for the use of the different materials and the recipients are accountable for the materials they receive.
“This is just the first leg of our campaign. The intention is to saturate the communities, especially the poorer areas, so that despite the economic crisis, people will not go hungry, as the government time and again has proven its sincerity in pursuing its hunger mitigation program,” Tad-y said.
