Capiceños benefit from ‘emergency’
ROXAS CITY – Capiceños are now benefiting from the government’s emergency employment program.
Trade and Industry Provincial Director Ermelinda Pollentes disclosed that under their department’s Comprehensive Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program (CLEEP), they have already employed eight Capiceños this May.
Pollentes said that of the eight emergency workers, five of whom are now working as CLEEP price monitors who are currently assigned in Roxas City and key municipalities, namely Dumarao, Mambusao, President Roxas and Pontevedra.
The price monitors are being engaged for six months, she said, adding that the three others will be working for three months as CLEEP augmentation staff and financial analyst.
President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo recently directed the DTI to ensure that appropriate prices of school supplies are maintained and observed properly by various establishments.
Earlier, President Arroyo has directed all government agencies to set aside 1.5 percent of their maintenance and other operating expenses (MOOE) to fund an emergency or short term employment program.
Yesterday, the President said that her administration keeps its focus on jobs creation to address the immediate concerns of workers who lost their jobs or who remain unemployed because of the global economic meltdown.
During her Cabinet meeting in General Santos City yesterday, Presidnet Arroyo said that the beneficiaries of her job creation and livelihood assistance initiatives include many workers from Central Mindanao, many of whom are fisherfolks and out-of-school youths.
She added that said retrenched and jobless workers in Central Mindanao now benefit from CLEEP administered by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE). (PIA/Jemin B. Guillermo)
