Job Fair to highlight Antique’s observance of Independence Day
SAN JOSE, Antique – The Department of Labor and Employment confirmed that their will be Job Fair in the Province of Antique to highlight the celebration of Independence Day.
Michael Gison, Labor and Employment Officer, DOLE Antique said that more than 10 agencies (international and local placement agencies) have confirmed to join the Job Fair in the province on June 12 aside from the big establishments and local entrepreneurs who wish to look for additional/new employees.
“We are still making arrangement with the Provincial Employment and Service Office (PESO) as to the final venue and other participating agencies aside from those who have already confirmed,” said Gison.
“Kagitingan, Kagalingan, Kasipagan tungo sa tunay na Kalayaan” is this year’s theme of Independence Day which will showcase the government’s sincere efforts in helping families cope with the impacts of poverty especially those affected by global economic crisis by making jobs available through Job Fair.
President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo in her policy statement emphasized that “this coming Independence Day, we will forego the annual parade which costs 30 million pesos. Instead, we will hold a mega-job fair so that our 45,000 workers displaced by the global crisis can find employment and livelihood.”
During the previous jobs fair, DOLE noted that the demand for jobs in the country at present include those in Call Centers, BPOs, IT services, wholesale and retail, construction, engineering, automotive, food and beverages, catering, hotels and restaurants, agriculture and agri-related business, manufacturing, apparel, education, banking and finance, travel and tourism, real estate, transportation, hospital and medical services, and bio-technology and clinical research.
DOLE Secretary Marianito Roque said the participating employers who offered thousands of local and overseas jobs during the May 1 job fairs, focused greatly on the selection of qualified applicants to hasten hiring and the workers' search for employment as this would boost the country's resiliency against the effects of the global economic crisis.
