Noppo to ensure road safety of students, teachers in Negros
After the peaceful June 1 school opening in Negros Occidental, the Philippine National Police in the province will prioritize the safety of students as well as teachers and parents in going to and fro the various private and public schools.
Police Chief Inspector Rico Santotome Jr, spokesperson of the Negros Occidental PNP, said that the police in the province will tap the services of force multipliers like barangay watchmen/tanods, traffic enforcers and security guards in ensuring a safe and secure travel for students and teachers alike.
The road safety and management program of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office of Police Senior Superintendent Manuel Felix, provincial director, in partnership with various stakeholders of the PNP in Negros Occidental has been effective in trimming down the number of vehicular incidents as well as injuries and fatalities this year as compared to the 2008 data.
In Hinigaran town, Police Senior Inspector Sonny Boy Bernus, the local chief of police, together with Police Officer 3 Ricardo Pasquin, Traffic PNCO, met with tricycle drivers and operators in the town and discussed issues and concerns relative to the safety of student commuters in the municipality.
Bernus emphasized the importance of having the required documents like driver's license, franchise sticker and OR/CR for drivers and for them to abide with the provisions of Republic Act 4136 or The Land Transportation and Traffic Code in ensuring that no road mishaps will occur in the town.
Or at the least, be prevented or minimized.
In addition, the Negros Occidental provincial director, now on his sixth month since he took over the post vacated by PSSupt Rosendo Franco, assured Negrenses of NOPPO's commitment in seeing to it that the province will be a safe and secure place to live, work and do business by providing the needed law enforcement services to all.
