42 rebel returnees get financial aid
ROXAS CITY – Forty-two rebel returnees in Capiz province were given financial aid by the government worth P50,000 each as their livelihood for returning in folds of the law.
The distribution of the livelihood in the form of motorcycle, traysikad, hand tractors, cows, carabaos, sari-sari store, etc. was done last Friday at the provincial capitol here.
The financial aid distribution to the rebel returnees is part of the Social Integration Program of the national government which was attended by one member of the Magdalo group soldier in the person of Milo Maestrecampo, Action Officer of the Office of the Presidential Assistant on Peace Process.
Asec. Raul Banias, who attended the said awarding, congratulated members of the New People’s Army (NPA) who returned to the folds of the law.
Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) Director Isagani Cuevas whose message was read by Supt. Leo Batiles, city police chief, said that the government can win the war against insurgency without firing bullets.
The distribution of financial aid to rebel returnees was also attended by Gov. Victor Tanco, Sr., Col. Gerardo Layug of the Philippine Army, Maj. Gen. Vicente Porto of 3ID, Board Member Rommel Lastimoso, and Provincial Administrator Zoe Herrera, among others.
