Controversial skywalk to be inaugurated soon
ROXAS CITY – The controversial skywalk project of 1st District Congressman Antonio del Rosario is set to be inaugurated and be turned over to Filamer Christian College (FCC) and Brgy. Captain Nelson Vidal of Brgy. 11 this month.
Engr. Efren Azagra, project engineer of the said project of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) 1st engineer district, said that the skywalk is now serviceable to the pedestrians.
According to him, the project is already 100 percent finished. He said that it was started on September 21 last year and was completed May 16 this year, however, the fence going to FCC is still being constructed.
Azagra said that due to the continued rising cost of labor and materials, the budget of the said skywalk was increased to P500,000 bringing the total budget of P4 million.
It was learned that the 1st district solon has proposed to construct three skywalks with a total budget of P10 million. Del Rosario later trimmed the projects down into one and realigned the funds to other more important projects.
Earlier, City Mayor Vicente Bermejo opposed the said projects claiming that there was no consultation made and it will destroy the view of Roxas City.
Bermejo also suggested to Del Rosario that the funds for skywalks could be used for drainage system and other infrastructure projects for the good of the city.
However, Del Rosario insisted that the said project was requested by residents of the said place and the FCC community.
The Capiz solon also said that the skywalk would help decongest the heavy traffic along Roxas Avenue.
