Capiz Gov. Victor A. Tanco, Sr. and Roxas City Mayor Vicente Bermejo will lead Capiceños in commemorating the historic event and deliver special messages for the occasion.
TESDA Provincial Director Victor Gallego and Tanco will lead in the distribution of the PGS vouchers to qualified beneficiaries. The scholars will enroll with the TESDA competency – based curriculum registered schools to avail of the program.
The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Provincial Office will also distribute checks for six local government unit (LGU) projects in the province during the freedom day commemoration rites.
The various barangays of the city are also set to receive tree seedlings and malunggay seeds from the Department of the Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) as part of its Independence Day giveaways.
The delivery of government programs and services is in line with President Gloria Macapagal – Arroyo’s directive that the Kalayaan 2009 observance must be stripped of its usual pomp and pageantry.
The President will lead the nationwide observance of the 111th Philippine Independence Day with the theme “Kagitingan, Kagalingan at Kasipagan Tungo sa Tunay na Kalayaan” at the Rizal Shrine in Koronadal City.
Aside from the traditional flag-raising rites, the Freedom Day events will include the formal launch of a Mega Jobs and Livelihood Fair that will be simultaneously replicated in various provincial and regional centers nationwide. (PIA/A.Lumaque)
