DOLE grants P450T to labor union for internet café biz
It has been the desire of members of the Central Negros Electric Cooperative (Ceneco) Union of Rational Employees (Cure) to improve the lives of their members by embarking on an entrepreneurial activity.
Last June 12, 2009, during the Independence Day Celebration at the Capitol Lagoon, that wish turned to reality through the Workers Income Augmentation Program (WINAP)) of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) under the stimulus package of the Arroyo administration.
True to its 111th Independence Day theme: “Kagitingan, Kagalingan at Kasipagan Tungo sa Tunay Na Kalayaan” members of the Cure headed by their President Benjamin Tundag received the check of P450,000 from Governor Isidro Zayco and DOLE Assistant Regional Director Crispin Dannug.
With a counterpart of more than P100,000, the Cure will put up an Internet Café near a university here in Bacolod City starting with 17 units.
“We are hoping that this money will help the families of our members, because our plan is to go into internet café,” Tundag said.
The business will be manned by children of labor union members who are unemployed and the income derived from the interned café will be used to augment the income of the employees under Cure, he added.
“We are thankful for the WINAP of President Gloria M. Arroyo because this will be a big help to us, worker, especially during this difficult times,” he told PIA..
Meanwhile, Cure Vice President Malou Paroco expressed elation over the grant saying “this is a good project of the administration that will help union members become entrepreneurs.”
“We are excited and happy we are part of the Dole, we are very much blessed,” she said.
Paroco told PIA the Cure is committed to make this endeavor a success as they will not waste money that came from the taxes of the people.
“For 23 years, the Cure has proven its sincerity and is careful in handling finances.” (PIA-LOL)
