PGMA will not run for Congress in 2010 says spokesperson
BACOLOD CITY -- President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo will not run for a lower position after her term ends in June 30, 2010, said Presidential Deputy spokesperson Ma. Lorelei Fajardo who was in Bacolod City Friday as guest speaker of the 111th Independence Day celebration.
She said the election is on May 11, 2010 and the President’s term will end on June 30, 2010.
One has to resign before filing the certificate of candidacy on or before November 30, 2009.
“I don’t know on how she will run?”
President Arroyo is frequent in her hometown in Pampanga.
But Fajardo said she is always there as she only wants to ensure that her priority projects and commitments are met before her term ends.
The President is almost out of Manila every day.
She was in Koronadal, South Cotabato last Friday for the celebration of the Independence Day.
The President will certainly step down when her term expires, Fajardo said.
She also said that it’s unfortunate that the Constituent Assembly (ConAss) or Charter Change (Cha-Cha) is always connected to term extension.
There will be no term extension, she said adding that, “Let’s leave Cha-Cha to Congress. It’s under their jurisdiction and not under Malacañang. Congress is an independent institution, a co-equal body of the Executive.”
She said that it’s all speculation that the President will run in her own district in Pampanga, as her way of becoming Prime Minister, when Charter Change, through ConAss, is achieved.
President Arroyo will be President only until June 30, 2010, she stressed.
