A symbol of peace now rises in Cansilayan, Tigbauan
A Day Care Center and a school building, two structures built in Barangay Cansilayan, Tigbauan, Iloilo now epitomizes the symbol of peace.
These infrastructure projects were the result of the consultations made from the people themselves who identified what their priority needs were to uplift their condition.
Barangay Cansilayan was identified under the RPA-ABB peace agreement as a peace and development area. It has a population of 338 and agriculture is the only means of livelihood.
The barangay folks were grateful because while the building could only cater for Grade one pupils as of now, the children were saved from a long walk to attend school. They hope that another building for Grade 2 will soon be put up.
Presidential Assistant for Western Visayas, Raul Banias said during the inauguration that the two structures which symbolize peace in the said barangay, will help serve as a step to educate “our children and build the culture of peace in the community”.
PA Banias said that under the Kalayaan Barangay Program of the government, more than 80 projects in 36 barangays in Western Visayas are implemented and “this is a commitment of the government under the peace process with the RPA-ABB”.
He also acknowledged the support of the United Nations Development fund Program and the engineering brigade of the 3rdInfantry Division of the Philippine Army.
Ms. Carmel Pami-Ulanday, director of the Official Development Assistance Support Unit said that other projects undertaken by the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace process are loated in Badiangan- a water system, San Joaquin- school building, Leon- formation of the Barangay Peace Development Councils.
