Health workers demand P241M hazard pay
ROXAS CITY – Some 102 city health workers are now asking the city government to pay them a total of P241,447,760.89 as an obligation mandated by RA 7305 or the Magna Carta of public health workers which mandates Local Government Units (LGUs) to pay the hazard allowances due them.
Vice Mayor Ronnie Dadivas, in his privilege speech, said on Thursday’s regular session that the petition for Mandamus filed by Association of Roxas City Health Employees represented by its President Dr. Ma. Esperanza Gepilano should not be ignored even if is a co-respondent in the said Mandamus case.
Under RA 7305 health workers with salary grade 19 and below shall get hazard allowance of 25% while health workers with salary grade 20 and above shall receive 5% hazard pay.
“We have the budget, we have the money, but do we have the compassion to extend the benefit securely for them?” the vice mayor said.
Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 16 Judge Delano Villaruz directed the respondents to file their comments to the petition, through counsel, with the same period.
During the session, the city council unanimously approved a resolution that the matter be referred to the legal counsel for comment. The said resolution was authored by City Councilor Ramon “Monchit” Albar.
