Bermejo denies LP kicked him out
ROXAS CITY – City Mayor Vicente Bermejo, Liberal Party stalwart, strongly denied the report that presidential aspirant Sen. Mar Roxas will kick him out from the dominant party.
“Let's wait for Sen. Mar to announce it. If it's true, then I’m not a ‘kapit tuko’ to stay with the party,” Bermejo said in an interview with this writer. He added that a barangay captain is the one spreading the news that he has been kicked out from the party.
Bermejo said he will not be worried if the party kicks him out, what is more worrying, he said, is when the people of Roxas City will do the same to him in which he will have no choice but leave his position as mayor of the city.
Bermejo said he does not see any reason why he should be taken out of the party.
The city mayor said that during the Western Visayas Athletic Association (WVRAA) Meet, Sen. Roxas offered him to take the congressional district or governorship however, he turned down the said offer for he wanted to finish his vision in Roxas City.
Rumors spread like wildfire that Bermejo will be kicked out from the LP because of his support to former Department of Agriculture (DA) Usec. Jocelyn “Jocjoc” Bolante who earlier announced to run as governor. Reportedly, another reason for the alleged kick-out is Bermejo’s refusal to support 1st District Cong. Antonio del Rosario and Gov. Victor Tanco, Sr.
Analysts say Bolante will definitely oppose Tanco who is an ally of Del Rosario and also the political foe of Bermejo although they belong in the same political party. Bermejo’s cousin incumbent Vice Governor Felipe Barredo announced several months ago to run as congressman against Del Rosario in the 1st district of Capiz.
Rumors also revealed that 2nd District Cong. Fredenil Castro, Bolante and Bermejo will unite as one to oppose the bets of Sen. Mar Roxas in the next election. The said group of three giant politicians reportedly still support Sen. Roxas's presidential bid however, the camp of the senator does not believe it since the group were rumored to have been committed to the other presidential aspirant.
