Sapian town conducts H1N1 seminar
SAPIAN, Capiz – This town under the stewardship of Mayor Arturo “Turic” Orosco, Sr. in cooperation with his wife Mrs. Evangeline Oñas-Orosco, Ph.D., conducted a seminar regarding the precautionary measures on how to avoid the A(H1N1) virus.
Orosco told The News Today (TNT) that the town is the first in Western Visayas to conduct a seminar and also the first town which displayed the Department of Health (DOH) advisory on H1N1 flu virus in front of the town municipal hall.
Orosco said participants in the seminar came from various sectors such as Barangay Health Workers (BHWs), Philippine National Police(PNP), Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) DepEd, municipal officials, and barangay officials, among others.
Orosco said that the speaker in the H1N1 seminar was Dr. Leah Del Rosario of Provincial Health Office (PHO) and the DOH regional office.
There are currently two persons in Capiz found to be positive of A(H1N1) flu. The first one was a 38 year old Overseas Female Worker (OFW) from Singapore who is a native of Tapaz, Capiz and the latest is a 14-year old female who is studying in Iloilo City. The second victim (name withheld) believed to have been infected with H1N1 flu virus from her dormmate at the dormitory in Iloilo City who came from Hong Kong.
Dr. Jarvis Punzalan, Provincial Health Officer, said that the14 year-old, who is a native of Roxas City, developed her symptom of flu and sore throat on June 16 and went home on July 18 in Roxas City.
He added that there are still three individuals taken with specimen who are under observation for showing symptoms of A(H1N1) virus.
