Capiz hosts 2009 IPs month
ROXAS CITY – The province of Capiz will host the 2009 National Indigenous People’s Month celebration in October, according to Provincial Tourism Officer Alphonsus Tesoro.
The celebration will be highlighted a national congress wherein various IPs issues and concerns will be tackled.
Tesoro said more than 100 indigenous people or ethnic groups from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao are expected to converge here for the October 2-6 event. The delegates will start arriving by Sept. 30 in time for the opening activities.
A village will be put up inside Villareal Stadium which will serve as a “second home” for the visiting participants.
Capiz has recently been put prominently on the cultural map of the country on the back of the province’s aggressive program and activities to push it as an eco-cultural tourism hub of the Central Philippines Super Region.
President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo has identified Central Philippines as the country’s tourism belt as distinguished from other super regions. President Arroyo has put in place various infrastructures to support tourism development and promotion in the super region.
The Capitol Provincial Press Bureau headed by Edward Basilonia said these initiatives have earned for Gov. Victor Tanco the accolade as the country’s “culture-friendly governor” and the province as culture-friendly local government unit from the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA).
Tanco welcomed the opportunity given to the province to host the national event. (PIA/CPPB)
