Region’s education czar bares ‘big wins’ for Division of Iloilo
The state of education in the province of Iloilo has way exceeded the expectations of the Department of Education (DepEd). In fact, schools under the Division of Iloilo now stands at par with the country’s other school system.
Dubbed as “high performing schools division,” Iloilo schools have scored big in the National Achievement Test (NAT), the Alternative Learning System (ALS) and sports development.
The report was made by Schools Division Superintendent Raymundo Lapating before members of the 9th Iloilo Sanggunian Panlalawigan (SP).
Lapating noted the gains realized by the division which stands as the biggest in the country today.
Iloilo also has the “Best Library Hub” throughout Western Visayas and recognized as a “premier division with the tradition of excellence.”
Lapating in reporting to the SP said key officials of the DepEd here particularly the Division of Iloilo joined hands “in moving our school division from Good to Great.”
Banner programs and projects under Lapating’s stint included access to pre-elementary education, early childhood experience, school in every barangay program and night school opportunities. Further still, access to education was also guaranteed with the establishment of secondary schools in strategic Iloilo barangays.
The Division of Iloilo made possible the “Project Ease” or distance-study system, quality education programs like special Science classes for fast learners and students with high aptitude in Science, English and Mathematics.
More good news from Superintendent Lapating with reports on the internal efficiency evaluation made that yielded encouraging results. These included performance evaluation made on both teachers and students alongside the decreasing drop-out and repetition rates in Iloilo schools.
“Education has been recognized as a central element and the true freedom to national development,” Lapating in his report before the SP body said. “It is the greatest social equalizer and the ultimate fulfillment of the Filipino dream. It is the key to developing a thinking and skilled workforce for the growing Philippine economy.”
