Batuigas backs Lastimoso’s congressional bid
ROXAS CITY – A veteran and well-known print journalist based in Manila who happens to be a Capiceño has endorsed former Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Roberto “Bobby” Lastimoso’s congressional bid in the 2nd district of Capiz.
Mr. Ruther Batuigas, native of Bailan, Pontevedra, Capiz and columnist of Tempo, Manila Bulletin and several other tabloids in Manila, declared his support for Lastimoso's political ambition in the second district.
Batuigas was known in the true-to-life film “Alyas Waway” which was based on his successful negotiation with “Alyas Waway” who hostaged several persons and later surrendered to authorities.
Batuigas said that as a journalist, this is the first time he endorsed a politician since he knows Lastimoso is a good man and has military training and not a “trapo” (traditional politician).
He added that Lastimoso could be trusted and has word of honor.
Batuigas, who is already 71 years old, hit former Department of Agriculture (DA) Usec. Jocelyn “Jocjoc” Bolante for destroying the image of Capiceños after he was involved in the P728 million fertilizer scam.
Lastimoso is facing Mrs. Jane Castro, wife of incumbent Cong. Fredenil Castro, also a friend of Batuigas.
Meanwhile, Lastimoso thanked Batuigas for endorsing him as he is proud to be with Sen. Mar Roxas’ Liberal Party (LP).
