Ilonggo balladeer donates handheld radios to traffic aides
Ilonggo balladeer Jose Mari Chan turned over 20 units of brand new handheld radios to the city government Tuesday that will be used by the Traffic Management and Engineering Unit (TMEU) of the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO).
Chan, who is a member of the Iloilo Economic Development (ILED) Foundation, expressed hope that his donation will also encourage other private citizens of this city to help the city police force.
“This is not the last time that I will help. I hope this will also encourage our other private citizen to help the city in appreciation for the service that our police force is giving to the community. I hope that private citizens here can also do their turn,” he said.
Mayor Jerry P. Treñas, who personally received the communication equipment, also expressed his appreciation to Chan whom he described as very supportive of the endeavors of the city government.
“The city is very grateful to Mr. Chan for this donation. This is a great help to our traffic,” Treñas said.
Meantime, ICPO director, Senior Supt. Melvin Mongcal assured that the use of the equipment will be maximized in the day-to-day operations of field personnel who are deployed on the road.
At present, the ICPO has about 70 units of handheld radios which are being shared by the traffic aides and organic members of the Philippine National Police (PNP) assigned at the ICPO.
“These will be an additional communication capability to our unit,” Mongcal said.
He added the city police also received 38 additional caliber 45 pistols thus decreasing the number of personnel without issued firearms.
“This does not discourage us from doing our work because we have philanthropic citizens who are helping us to perform our law enforcement functions,” he said. (PNA)
